Advertising at universities?
Today a matter of course, but until the mid-1990s an absolute taboo. For 30 years, we at Deutsche Hochschulwerbung have been shaping modern higher education marketing as a pioneer. Our experienced team advises companies on the development and implementation of effective campaigns and ensures a precisely tailored approach to the young target groups of students, graduates, pupils, trainees, and young professionals.
At the same time, as a marketer and service provider, we are a reliable partner to numerous universities and student services organizations throughout Germany. This dual expertise makes us a strong link between business and academia.
»I still remember our first campus campaign well: 50 posters, a backpack full of flyers, and plenty of enthusiasm along with it. 30 years later, we are still very close to our target group and always on the pulse of the times.
Today we develop digital and analog campaigns for companies of all sizes at universities across Germany – professional, precise, and with the same conviction as back then: advertising for students must be authentic and take place directly in students’ everyday lives in order to achieve the greatest impact.«

Athanasios Roussidis,
Founder and Managing Director
Deutsche Hochschulwerbung
Germany in focus,
Europe in view.
With 30 employees and 4 branch offices in Bremen, Düsseldorf, Köln and Siegen, we are very close to the target group and offer companies a broad portfolio for targeted advertising campaigns: more than 3,500 traditional advertising media in various formats, over 800 screens, steles and video walls at 120 universities, and the experience from more than 50,000 successfully carried out promotions make every campaign a success.
The close exchange with students, our partners, as well as the universities and student services organizations ensures that every campaign really arrives where the target group is: on campus, in student dining facilities, on the street, in learning apps, or on the internet! We also implement analog and digital campaigns across national borders and reach students throughout Europe with tailored measures.

Higher education marketing: Orientation is everything!
422 universities in 267 cities, 2.86 million students in 63 fields of study with countless lecture halls and seminar rooms, 57 student services organizations with hundreds of cafeterias and dining halls – the German higher education landscape is diverse and complex. It’s easy to lose track and lose sight of your campaign goals. That’s where we come in as experts: We provide clarity and help companies advertise at the university touchpoint without wasted reach.
We set standards!
Those who stand still fall behind. That’s why, as Deutsche Hochschulwerbung, we lead the way! Because the university is a very dynamic environment and the student target group is particularly open to new formats and technological innovations.
Verified: High quality and measurable reach
We always want to get better: Crucial to our success are our own high standards, which always take our work to the next level.

Quality in the field of ambient media
The Fachverband Ambient Media e.V. (FAM) has pursued the goal since its founding in 2001 of positioning Ambient Media as an innovative basic medium comparable across media. Like all other 15 member companies, we take part in the certification by independent auditors of the association and, within the scope of the thorough review, commit ourselves to the high standards in order processing, documentation, and service fulfillment. The FAM quality seal has established itself as a reliable proof of quality and transparency for services in the Ambient Media industry and creates trust among advertising companies.

Transparency in the DOOH sector
The industry association IDOOH (Institute for Digital Out of Home) conducts the Public & Private Screen Study and reviews the reach of our digital advertising media. The independent measurement is based on tracking data, visitor frequencies and onsite interviews and creates transparency in this young advertising category. As a provider of DOOH on campus, we are a member of the Digital Media Institute (DMI), the central network of medium-sized DOOH providers. Together with leading marketers, DMI founded the umbrella association IDOOH in 2022 and has since been actively shaping the further development of the DOOH industry within this strong alliance.
Innovative: Digital advertising and AI learning platform
The young target groups are highly tech-savvy and (almost) always online. For this reason, we develop digital advertising solutions for maximum campaign success.

PDOOH and Programmatic Advertising
Advertising always keeps up with the times; a good example is Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH): the screens and steles have long been a familiar sight at many touchpoints and enable data-driven, dynamic, and networked audience targeting. Since 2021, our DOOH Campus Screens have been available for programmatic booking via all common DSPs – the first in the higher education landscape. This shows: We drive innovation forward. We are also at the forefront of programmatic advertising in other areas and can target precisely, book flexibly and in real time, and control campaigns intelligently – indispensable for efficient marketing.

Our AI learning platform Studeez
How do pupils and students learn today? This question has preoccupied us greatly in recent years. Our realization: although preparation for exams still takes place at school or university, young target groups are increasingly working out the basics through independent learning at home. This is where our AI learning platform Studeez comes in: with all relevant AI functionalities in one app, Studeez is the “Swiss Army knife” for daily learning. Thanks to its intuitive usability and low barrier to entry, AI-based functions are made accessible to a broad audience.
“Through our active work within the association, we contribute to key topics such as transparency and standardized KPIs, thereby helping to shape the standards of the entire industry.”

University advertising, but with responsibility.
We help companies reach young target groups in a targeted way and on an equal footing. But our commitment does not end there by any means: As part of the higher education landscape, we take responsibility for the environment, society, and the generations shaping the future. Young people today expect more than good communication. They pay attention to sustainability, fairness, and values. This is also reflected in the values of our partners—the universities and student services organizations—with whom we work closely. As a mid-sized company, we also want to help shape a future worth living in and give our partners, the target groups we market to, and last but not least our employees the good feeling that, through their commitment, they are helping to move things in the right direction.

Sustainability and environmental protection
Together with Climate Extender we record our emissions and optimize processes in a climate-friendly way. Since 2019, we have been able to reduce our CO₂ emissions from 203 to 108 tonnes. We offset the remaining emissions through international climate protection projects, for example through reforestation in Zimbabwe and support for solar energy in India. More information about our commitment to environmental protection.
Climate-positive projects
In the future, too, we will continue to focus on sustainability and also celebrate climate-positive projects that literally bear fruit: Together with a local partner, we planted 20 fruit trees and 5 berry bushes. The start was arduous, the soil deep, the weather wet. But now it is blooming and buzzing on our little meadow, a living symbol of our commitment.

Diversity and respect
Diversity is not a buzzword for us, but a lived reality. Our team brings together different nationalities, perspectives and experiences and that is exactly what makes us strong. We don’t rely on quotas, but on genuine equality – at all positions, all the way up to senior management.
Individual support instead of one-size-fits-all solutions
We know that every person has different needs. That is why we address topics such as professional development, childcare, or special family situations on an individual basis. For us, respect means listening and finding solutions together. Our attitude is not only visible internally: We have signed the Charta der Vielfalt, are a member of the “Erfolgsfaktor Familie” network, and with the VSME-Auditierung we stand for sustainable corporate governance. In this way, we send a clear signal for a working environment in which diversity, equality, and respect are not only promised, but lived.

Society and Sport
The campus is the ideal touchpoint for reaching students. Not only companies looking for skilled workers or launching new products know this. Associations and initiatives also want to inspire the young target group with their offerings and projects. As a cooperation partner, we are happy to make our reach at the university available.
Sport for successful integration
Every year, hundreds of thousands of students embark on the adventure of studying. Often, for these young people, it is their first independent steps in a big, unfamiliar city. Sport, whether as an active athlete or as a spectator, provides orientation for many. It also creates a feeling of belonging – which helps a lot when “arriving” in the new home.
“The cooperation with Hochschulwerbung is a real gain for us. We are experiencing a great, reliable partnership that is close to the students and makes the Haie visible where young people are preparing for the future. The young, dynamic, and eager-to-learn environment fits our club and our values perfectly.”

Our focus is on university marketing and the marketing of students and graduates. However, with our partner companies and brands, we can also reach other target groups precisely at the right touchpoints. These include young target groups such as pupils, trainees, or young professionals, but also blue- and white-collar workers and everyone you want to reach in the urban area.
