With over 68,000 students at four universities, Aachen is one of Germany’s most important university locations. But especially during the intense phase of the semester, even the large universities RWTH Aachen University and FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences reach their capacity limits, especially when it comes to study spaces.

Our partner bluebird found a smart solution for this: The vacant Horten department store in the heart of Aachen’s city center was quickly repurposed into a consumption-free pop-up learning space and offers students a much-needed place for focused work and exchange.

The concept proved convincing: As early as the first month, 3,200 students took advantage of the offer! Particularly strongly represented were the disciplines of natural sciences (29.8%), engineering sciences (26.3%), and electrical engineering & IT (24.6%) – an ideal environment for companies that want to position themselves as attractive employers for a highly qualified target group.

How this can be achieved was demonstrated by the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV) with an eye-catching premium wall directly at the entrance.

Climate-neutral since 2019 and also in 2025 with a clear mission: For the seventh time in a row, we have been certified as a climate-neutral company by Climate Extender®. This is a success that is very important to us as an owner-managed company! Because many of our colleagues are parents and bring with them a strong awareness of actively shaping the future.

Our CO₂ footprint shows what is possible as a team. From 203 tonnes in 2019 to only 108 tonnes of emissions in 2025. That is almost a halving through consistent measures such as switching to green electricity, digitalisation, fewer business trips, and promoting sustainable mobility.

But for us, climate protection is more than just a number. That’s why we invest not only in offsetting, but also in real change: with a project for reforestation and the protection of wildlife in Uruguay, the distribution of improved cookstoves in Ghana, and the promotion of the expansion of solar energy in India. From CO₂ reduction to CO₂ positivity: Climate protection has an impact not only globally, but also on a smaller scale. A project close to our hearts is literally bearing fruit: Together with a local partner, we planted 20 fruit trees and 5 berry bushes right on our doorstep. The start was arduous, the soil deep, the weather wet. But now our little meadow is blooming and buzzing – an unmistakable sign and a living symbol of our commitment.

We keep at it. Because every gram counts for people, animals, and the environment. 💚

As a leading provider in university marketing, we are expanding our Digital-out-of-Home (DOOH) hardware with a particularly innovative solution. With the DOOH stele Lena from the FireProtected Pro series, we are relying on the world’s only VdS 6024-certified DOOH stele, which may also be used in escape and rescue routes as well as other highly frequented campus areas.

The FireProtected Pro series from Werkstation GmbH not only has VdS 6024 certification, but is also suitable for use in public buildings with strict fire protection requirements thanks to an integrated smoke detector. This detects smoke development at an early stage and, thanks to the integrated extinguishing unit inside the housing, can quickly contain the source of the fire. By using the Lena DOOH totem, we create a safe and at the same time effective advertising solution for the campus. Werkstation GmbH is on the shortlist for the TrutzAwards with the Lena totem and is therefore among the three best fire protection solutions in Germany in 2025.
